Non B Visa

The non-immigrant visa indicates the period during which the holder can enter Thailand. This does not relate to the length of time the visa holder will be granted as their permission to stay in the country. The permission to stay is indicated by a date stamped in the foreigner’s passport by the Immigration official, showing the date by which they must leave the country.

  • This type of visa is a good fit for foreigners who want to work in Thailand and obtain a valid work permit. This visa can be applied for in a Thai Embassy or through converting a tourist visa to a Non-Immigransupport the foreign employee’s visa application, and the work permit shall be obtained during the initial 90 days. Upon obtaining the work permit, the employee shall apply for 1 year visa extension inside the Kingdom.
  • A passport with at least 6 months validity (as for the day of application for visa) is a requirement even if the current visa is intended to be converted.
  • An invitation or confirmation letter to clarify the purpose of employment issued by the Thai organization, entity or company (prospective employer).
  • Applicable Embassy fees
  • Documents provided by the company must be stamped and signed by the Director.

E-Visa Application

Effective 1 January 2025, 10.00 hrs. (UTC+7), non-Thai nationals who are currently in Vientiane Capital, Vientiane Province, Bolikhamxay Province, Xayaboury Province, Xaysomboun Province, Luang Prabang Province, Bokeo Province, Luang Namtha Province, Oudomxay Province, Phongsaly Province,
Xieng Khouang Province, and Houaphan Province and wish to apply for a visa to enter Thailand
must submit their visa applications for all visa types through the e-Visa system
at https://www.thaievisa.go.th/.

Certain nationals are eligible for visa exemption or visa on arrival. Check your eligibility at  https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ under the heading “Do I need a tourist visa?” and  https://thailandevoa.vfsevisa.com/.

No In-Person Submission of Passport and Supporting Documents

Applicants no longer need to submit their passport and supporting documents in person at the Consular Section of the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane.

Visa Fee Payment

Online payment is currently unavailable for this location. Visa fees must be paid in cash (Thai Baht) at the Consular Section (15 Bourichan Road, Ban Phonesinuan, Sisattanak District, Vientiane Capital) either by the applicant or someone else, between 09.00 – 12.00 hrs., Monday – Friday (except Embassy holidays).

Processing Time

The processing time for visa applications through the e-Visa system will take approximately 10-15 working days (if all required documents are complete), from the date the visa fee is paid.

Approval Notification

If the e-Visa application is approved, a confirmation will be sent to the applicant’s registered email. A copy of this confirmation must be printed as proof of a visa and to be presented to airline staff at departure or Thai immigration officers upon arrival in Thailand.
